Africa chess boss lauds Kenya
Africa Chess Confederation President Lewis Ncube has lauded Kenya for staging a successful Continental Championship.
The continental chief lauded Kisumu County and the organizers for staging a successful tournament adding that Africa is ripe for hosting major global events .
"I am delighted by the level of competition in this year's event, it's a huge victory for Chess Kenya and Kisumu County , and as a federation we are keen on growing the sport to reach a larger African population.
Addressing the 174 participants today Her Excellency Dorothy Nyong’o urged them to exercise the spirit of sportsmanship during the 10th edition as the competition enters day 5.
"We are delighted as Kisumu County to host this year's event, it is amazing to see a huge number of competitors gathered here , I wish them all the best in this championship ", said the first lady.
The Kisumu County First Lady Her Excellency Dorothy Nyong'o received the continental boss to at the lakeside city on arrival for year’s competition.
The competition is getting heated with Kenya's hopes now lying on Samuel Wanjala, Tracy Njoki, Janvi Shah and Janki Shah. The Kenyans will be keen on wrestling the crown from South Africans, Egyptians and Algerians who are defining the flow of the games.
Meanwhile Russia’s deputy Prime minister Arkady Dvorkovich is expected to jet into Kisumu on Friday morning at 7am. On his arrival the immediate World Cup LOC chairman is expected to meet with Kisumu County Governor Prof. Anyang’ Nyong’o at the County offices before addressing the participants of the 10th edition of this championship.
