Nairobi, Kenya, July 10, 2019- The 13th edition of the Family Group Eldoret Half Marathon today received a shot in the arm with a boost in the sponsorship kitty for the event scheduled to be held on Sunday, October 6th 2019 in the city of Eldoret.
The Family Bank foundation has announced a 12 Million Shilling sponsorship towards the race in a move that will make it one of the most lucrative half marathons in the country.
Speaking in Nairobi today, Family Group Foundation Manager, Jacqueline Mathaga announced an increase in the prize money where the winners of the men and women's half marathon races will bag 350,000 shillings each up from the 250,000 cap set by Athletics kenya as the minimum winnings for the 21 km race winners. The first and second runners-up will take home KES 250,000 and KES 150,000 respectively, which is also a KES 100,000 increase over last year’s prize money.
“We are honoured to once again partner with Athletics Kenya to deliver a bigger and better 2019 Family Group Eldoret Half Marathon that is more lucrative to the athletes,” Mathaga said.
“Our commitment is in recognizing and nurturing talent through athletics and bringing about transformation to our society. Through the proceeds of the Marathon, a cause that we took up in 2016 dubbed ‘Champions Run for Autism’ has seen us renovate two classrooms and accommodated 44 pupils in the Special Needs Programme at Sosiani Primary School,” Mathaga noted.
“We hope to attract even more individual and corporate sponsors in this year’s marathon and give an opportunity to children living with autism to access quality education,” she added.
The sponsorship kitty has been boosted by the sister companies under the Family Group Foundation banner that brings together Family Bank Ltd, Daykio Plantations Ltd, Kenya Orient Insurance Ltd, Kenya Orient Life Assurance Ltd and Alpha Africa Asset Managers.
Last year, World Half Marathon record holder Joyciline Jepkosgei proved her prowess to win the Family Group Eldoret Half Marathon while the men’s title was won by Kelvin Kiptum Cheruiyot.
Registration has opened online at https://familygroupmarathon.comand as well as all Family Bank branches countrywide at a fee of KES 1,000. This year’s marathon targets to attract over 3,000 participants. Other sponsors of the Marathon include AAR Insurance, Brainwave Communications Limited, Maisha Water and Eldoret County.
