Mount Kenya region aspirants hand in nomination papers ahead of county polls In
Aspirants from Nyeri, Kiambu, Murang’a, Nyandarua, Kirinyaga, Makueni, West Pokot, and Turkana counties have on Wednesday, October 16, 2019, submitted their nomination forms to the FKF Electoral Board secretariat.
This ahead of the county polls scheduled to be held on November 23, 2019.
The aspirants had their forms and relevant documents scrutinized by the board’s secretariat, with acknowledgment slips handed to those who passed the eligibility criteria, as stipulated in the FKF Electoral code.
“I believe the elections will be free and fair. The nomination process is thorough and there is good reception,” said FKF Nyandarua County Branch Chairperson aspirant Lucy Kageni Githinji.
FKF Makueni County Branch Chairperson aspirant Samuel Mwongela, meanwhile, lauded the Federation’s new devolved system of government, passed at the 2017 Annual General Meeting in Mombasa, while exuding confidence that he will win.
“The devolution system set by FKF is really good as it has enabled football leagues to be played at the county levels. I believe in the credibility of this election and I hope I get another chance to elevate football in Makueni,” he said.
FKF Kiambu County Branch aspirant James Kamau has exuded confidence in the Electoral Board’s independence ahead of the upcoming elections.
” The Electoral Board is doing a splendid job in ensuring the nomination process is hustle free. I believe in the Electoral Board to produce credible results,” he said.
On Monday, aspirants from Meru, Isiolo, Marsabit, Embu, Tharaka Nithi, Kitui, and Machakos counties submitted their forms, with Samburu, Trans Nzoia, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Baringo, Laikipia, and Nakuru expected on Thursday.
The deadline for nomination to county electoral positions has been set on Saturday, October 19, 2019, after which a preliminary list of candidates will be released on Tuesday next week.
