Over 200 clubs to feature in Mtaani Konnect tourney

More than 200 clubs will squire it out in the inaugural Mtaani Konnect Cup 2015 tournament slated for August 15 -16 in Nairobi.
Speaking during the launch of the tournament in Karen yesterday, local businessman and the tournament sponsor, Candy n Candy Records Chief Executive Officer Joe Kariuki affirmed that the initiative is geared towards national healing and reconciliation, youth empowerment and will help identify upcoming talents in football especially in Estates hence the Kiswahili name (Mtaani).
“We are looking at a tournament that will not only give the youth a chance to discover and nurture their talent but as well enhance cohesion among young people who are the core of this country,” Kariuki said.
The Mtaani Konnect seven-A-side Cup tournament which has been organized by Identity Kenya will be played at The De’Paul Centre in Karen and will take a direct knock out system during the two-day extravaganza that will as well seek to un earth talent in Langata constituency, much that has been over the years overshadowed by Kibra which broke away from original area.
Organisers said that already 50 teams have confirmed their participation and are expecting upto to 200 teams to register. Winners will walk away with Ksh. 30,000 inclusive of the main Trophy. The first runners up will receive Ksh. 20,000 and the second runner up will receiving Ksh. 10,000. Other grand prizes includes four grand motor bikes and branded ‘balls’ that will be given to tournaments best players, best team and best coaches.
Registration is Kshs.1,000 for what will now be an annual event targeting to include up to KPL clubs in two years. The organizers have confirmed that they have already involved Football Kenya Federation (FKF) and the local administration.
“We have also lined up exciting prizes for the winners including several Motor Bikes. We are looking forward for an exciting tournament,” added Kariuki.
The registration deadline is 10th August.
