Fingers point at Makadara MP Aladwa for donating expired food in Viwandani

The residents of Viwandani slums in Makadara are up in arms protesting what they claimed was distribution of expired foodstuffs as relief by the area Member of Parliament George Aladwa during one of his campaign trails in the Viwandani area.

According to residents, Aladwa, who was accompanied by ODM Secretary General and Nairobi Senate candidate Edwin Sifuna and Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris in their vote hunt in Viwandani knowingly, distributed the expired foodstuffs to unsuspecting residents

Aladwa allegedly colluded with a Nairobi Member of the County Assembly (MCA) whose family runs a foodstuff company in the heinous act. The MCA donated the foodstuffs meant to be dumped after going stale to the MP who then went on the give them out to poor residents, thereby exposing them to the risk of food poisoning.

The expired foodstuffs were distributed only to the poor residents mainly in the informal settlements who due to the biting poverty and food insecurity scrambled for the goodies not bothering to check the Kenya Bureau of Standards mark of qualify in order to ascertain if they were fit for human consumption.

The MP who is allegedly broke has recently been a worried man. His chances of successfully defending his seat have dwindled since the entry of businessman and philanthropist Anthony Waithaka who is seeking to unseat Aladwa on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party ticket.
